WRITING: So there’s not a ton happening on the actual writing front. The bucket is empty, as they say. I’m giving myself grace at the moment, having had a very busy few weeks. We dropped Henry at boarding school this week, and Lynda had surgery on her ankle last Tuesday. It’s been a bit of a grind. On that note, I’ll link up a short journal post I wrote last year called Bathmats. Not a sexy title, I know, but that’s the whole point. Sometimes, married life and/or life with children is not sexy. It’s work. And when it feels more like that than anything else, what do you do? READING: I came home from Italy with two book recommendations. One is a novel by Kate Quinn called Mistress of Rome, a fast-paced read with gladiator battles, love stories, and betrayals galore. The other is S.P.Q.R, a book where professor Mary Beard “narrates the history of Rome.” I’ve been very very bad about reading lately, and Quinn’s book has me psyched about reading again. I’ve not been able to put it down. Beard’s book is up next. LISTENING: I’m lucky that my man listens to podcasts so I don’t have to sift through the gigantic library that’s out there. On our way home from Connecticut, we listened to an episode of William Green’s We Study Billionaires. We can all agree that that’s a horrifically scary title, but the episode with Michael Berg, the International Director of The Kabbalah Center, was insightful and enlightening. Highly recommend if you are interested in the intersection of wealth, spirituality and happiness, along with human interconnectedness.
